So what is a redress number? A redress number is issued by Homeland Security Traveler Redress Inquiry Program. It is used when you have been repeatedly subjected to excessive screenings or misidentification while traveling. It is given to people that have mistakenly identified as threats to help avoid security issues in the future. Sounds like it would help me, right? WRONG! Tip: A redress number is only going to help you in the United States. I am having my issues getting into other countries because the US government did not cancel my passport when it was lost. In fact, right before we left for Chamonix I received an email reminding me that said passport was expiring next year. I can’t wait! The benefit to having the redress number however, is that I am not longer exposed to additional screenings at airports. . . at least not yet. I used to be the one pulled aside for screenings. It might be fingerprints or pat downs, nothing too excessive. I do need to add my redress number to my global entry card though, just in case. If you have had difficulties printing boarding pass or been told your name is close to someone on do not fly list, a redress number would be for you. It is easy to apply. You do it online and get the answer in a couple of weeks. So long story short, a redress number does not work for my problem. I am just going to have to ride it out until that passport expires and hope that is the end of the problems.
