One Week to Go!

Preparing for your trip

Now it is time to prepare your home and yourself for while you are away. I always check medications to make sure that I will have enough while I am gone (plus a couple of days, just in case). For Chamonix, it also requires me to have an altitude sickness medication. You have to plan ahead for that because you actually begin the medication before you ascend. Tip: If you have altitude sickness, you know it. Well, I guess that is only if you have been to the mountains before. If you have not, unfortunately there is no getting altitude sickness until you know. Altitude sickness medication is a prescription, so I doubt a doctor would prescribe it unless you have experienced it before and know that you need it. When I have switched doctors, they actually question me if I actually have altitude sickness. If you have pets, you also have to make sure that they are cared for while you are gone. We actually have a family member staying at our house and watching our dog, however, I do not want them to walk her. Tip: A quick internet search turned up dog walkers in our area. I ended up using a service called Rover. It has an app you can download and enter the dates that you need the service. Then dog walkers reach out to you via the app. They have pictures and bios and you chat with them before choosing one. Once they walk your dog you get a map of where they went, if the dog went potty, etc. The dog walker also reaches out via the app and tells you how the walk went. Of course you have to pack as well. Tip: Check the weather a week out and then keep checking. Weather changes daily. I pack based on weather and activity. To me, it’s a lot easier to pack for a beach vacation than a ski vacation. Weigh your suitcases to be sure they are under the weight limit and check how many bags you are allowed. For our trip to France, we ended up in different lines and I had to check an extra bag under me that could have gone under one of the girls. Pricey mistake!
