Chamonix Comes to an End

Beginning the long journey home

We have officially left Chamonix. We travelled to Cours Montana for a day of skiing/snowboarding. I best describe it as the slush I won’t ski at home. Spring has definitely arrived in Switzerland. But at least I can say I skied in Switzerland. We then began the long journey home. The first stop was at the Airport Marriott in Geneva. Interestingly enough, our hotel was on the Swiss side and our car rental return was on the French side. We dropped the girls at the hotel and were able to figure out gassing up the car and returning it to the French side. We then caught the hotel shuttle back. We had dinner at the Marriott and then proceeded to repack and weigh all of the bags. They were in complete disarray as we left items out for the ski/snowboard day. After that a quick shower and lights out for a long journey home. We woke up at 5:15 am since I was not able to add our luggage. Everything went well and after a brief time in the lounge we were on our way!

A shout out to Delta Airlines! I have a bad back and the apartment bed that we stayed in did not help the cause. I was in a lot of pain on the way home. I tried to upgrade my seat on-line but the seats were closed off. I went up to the Delta agent at the desk and asked if it was possible to upgrade my seat. He said he didn’t think so. I thank him and told him it was my fault for not paying attention to the seats that I selected when I booked. He then asked for my passport and wrote my name down. When it came time to get on the plane, my boarding pass would not work because he had upgraded me for free! With a 4 hour drive at the end of a 12 hour travel day, I was beyond grateful! Tip: Never demand an upgrade and always be willing to pay for it. I was willing to pay for it and just pleasantly surprised.

Update on my Delsey carry-on. It has already come apart at two points on the handle. The first handle came apart on the flight over. I will be reaching out to the company, but plan to go back to my tried and true travel companion my LongChamps bag. The Delsey is very stiff and briefcase like. While it protect my laptop this makes it difficult to shove under a seat. The actual bag itself seems heavier as well when it is not attached to the top of my luggage.
